Does Article Marketing Still Work For SEO?

Over the last year or so I have seen a number of commentators write off the effectiveness of using articles as part of their SEO campaign. But I'm still a believer in article marketing and going by the results of the techniques I use the search engines agree with me.

So, how do you run an effective SEO article marketing campaign? We'll I'm going to run through a few samples that will hopefully give a greater insight in how to harvest better results from your written work.

An Articles Starting Point and Redistribution Rules

If you have a blog or some form of media centre within your site then this is your articles birthplace. You first publish on your own domain for a number of marketing reasons: unique content, internal links, page incrementation, readership and authoritative status etc...

You can then harness the power of the community via social media channels. Please be aware that I am not talking about self-promotion! If your content is good enough it'll be picked up. Sometimes, however, a nudge may be required, but in most cases there are devoted social media blood hounds out there forever sniffing out decent published information worthwhile to submit to there favourite site.

Now, I'll pick apart the post and do a nip, tuck and beefing-up job. Remember, a blog post has many personal touches woven throughout, articles on the other-hand should be informative without being too personal. The information relayed is the important factor, the main focus, and if you do it correctly the driving force of a lot of traffic and back links to your site.

Once you have dissected and turned your post into a quality, informative, well written and grammatically correct piece - your ready for distribution. There are only 10 - 15 article sites that would receive my article submission.

The reason why the number is so small?

Because I have tested who brings me traffic, where my article is best picked-up from, published on other sites with anchor text still in place and also which article sites don't trigger Google's duplicate content filters. Its not hard to find out who Google deems as trusted resources for article submissions - just do a search on a recently submitted articles title and see which escape the duplicate content filters.

Within the article distribution period I also run a Google Alert either on the article title or a part of a paragraph or both to trace where my article is being found. I don't, nor have I ever, used automatic software for releasing my articles. I like to keep it manual thus always having control plus I'm not spamming my article to over 300 article sites so don't really see the need.

Stage 3, Yes there really is another Way!

The third way to ring some juice from your inspirational content is by again re-trimming and sending it to press-release and syndication sites. There are a few good ones out there that are free and will also have your work featured in Google News - another traffic driver.

So, in summary, combining the old with the new, articles and press releases with blogging and social bookmarking can bring very effective results in both traffic and quality back links to your site that will help promote you or your company to a wider population seeking advice from the information you disclose.

Article Marketing And Search Engine Optimization

Over the years, the methods used by online marketers have gone through numerous stages of growth and evolution. At first, many organizations used dedicated offline advertising as their only means of driving traffic to their websites. Amidst increasing competition, online marketing experts developed new and innovative methods to reach customers.

Given that search engines are the primary source traffic for many websites, one of the most popular forms of unpaid online marketing is search engine optimization, otherwise known as SEO. This is method of optimizing a website for given terms is a means of drawing traffic through the use of keywords and search engine indexing. Through the strategic use of targeted keywords and high-quality content, a website owner can significantly increase their search engine ranking and attract significant search engine traffic.

Though many methods have been suggested and used to achieve high search engine rankings, article marketing has become a popular approach. Although article marketing has a rich history in print media--think of 'expert' columns in magazines and newspapers--its online applications can be just as effective at attracting traffic and publicity.

Article marketing has gained popularity in part because of its accessibility. A website owner can write an article, distribute it, and increase their traffic through the links in the 'About the Author' section. The reader of the article gets expert knowledge for free and the online marketer gets free or very low-cost advertising.

Search engine optimization and article marketing go hand in hand. When an expert writes an article, they will naturally use the keywords that pertain to their niche. Readers who find the expert's articles through an Internet search may click on the link to the author's website contained in the 'About the Author' section. This can dramatically increase the site's traffic and search engine ranking.

Although many search engine ranking methods are still unknown or poorly understood, one widely-held belief is that a site will rank higher as it gains more incoming links. This is one way that article marketing directly increases a web site's ranking. Every time one of the articles containing a link to the author's site is published online, more links pointing to that site are put into place. Search engines detect those incoming links and award a higher search engine ranking based on the number of links and the relative search engine rankings of the linking sites. However, over aggressive article marketing can produce excessive redundant content which may be flagged as spam by some search engines.

Unfortunately, this Internet marketing method has led to the proliferation of low-quality articles written only to increase search engine rankings. These articles are not written for the purpose of sharing information or educating readers they are often little more than a specific keyword repeated many times in a short article. This type of online marketing article is known as an SEO article and is considered by many search engine users to be a nuisance.

To provide a positive experience for Internet readers and encourage future repeat traffic, Internet marketers need to choose their article content carefully. Providing valuable content to the Internet community is what article marketing was meant to do. Distributing articles with high-quality content does more than gain an initial surge in traffic and a higher search engine ranking. It also establishes the site with loyal readers who will keep coming back on their own.

Looking at some of today's Internet marketing giants, it's easy to see how they got where they are. They don't provide their readers with useless SEO articles, which are the Internet equivalent of junk food. They post useful, intelligent, high-quality content which provides value to the visitor.

What does all of this mean for you when you are in the early stages of designing your Web site? Web design can easily be geared toward search engine optimization. By including quality content articles on your own site, you provide a reason for casual visitors to stay and look around. When coupled with article marketing, this online marketing method is an effective way to increase your odds of attracting and retaining prospective clients.

Search Engine Optimization Article Marketing And SEO

With the invention of search engine optimization a new world of advertising possibilities was created!

Article marketing for example is a form of key word marketing that provides a reader the opportunities to click on various hyperlinked words and be directed to another website to gain more knowledge or view products. Article marketing and its impact on SEO has been both negative and positive. SEO is a way that search engines perform pagerankings of websites.

Those websites that use Article marketing are more likely to have more clicks and visitors then those sites that do not use it. I am not saying that it is a guaranteed form of advertising, but it does generate traffic by reaching a larger audience. For one, searches are seeking information and if you site pertains or could aid in information or you could benefit for the information they received why not use article marketing to generate more traffic and promote your site.

The negative result is that it has caused those that do not use article marketing in SEO to not be higher up in the pagerankings. Is that fair? Maybe it's not fair, but it's a marketing strategy. When marketing anything you should use all the tools at your disposal and in the Internet world one tool is article marketing.

Those sites who use article marketing are reaping the positive rewards of article marketing but since SEO is a from of keyword searches, does that mean that they should be higher in the page rankings when they weren't actually searched and found? Each search engine provides a set of "rules" that they apply by and as long as you follow that article marketing can benefit you.
